Why Do I Need Insurance?

The Bridges of Risk

When you use the bridges you may draw your own or print a copy of my illustration of the Bridges of Risk. Explain that for every instance where people are exposed to a large risk there usually is insurance coverage for such an event - thus, Risk = Insurance.

So what we will use is information from Stats Canada, General Insurance Brokers of Canada as well as information from several major general insurance companies in Canada. This illustration may not be entirely accurate for your specific town or city, but it serves to effectively deliver the message. It will demonstrate that the largest risk is really the risk that most of us choose not to insure, and that the two risks which we all insure are generally accepted requirements imposed by institutions - one is the legal requirement for car insurance and the other, house insurance, is a financial requirement for lending institutions whenever you take out a mortgage.
